World disability day celebrated
Over 250 persons with disabilities (PwDs) gathered to celebrate the world disability day at SFS School, Basar, West Siang Dt, Arunachal Pradesh, on Dec 4, 2014. FAsCE India zonal office, Basar, under the aegis of CBR Forum, Bangalore, organised the celebration to conscientise the disabled regarding their rights and enhance their lives.

The gathering seemed quite jubilant to celebrate the day for the first time ever in life amidst their relatives, school students, public leaders, village head men, well-wishers and heads of various departments from the town. The interactions that took place among them in the morning hours of the day embellished their joy. “Celebrating our day for the first time – I’m so excited,” said Mr Karto Riba, the secretary of Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO).

Mr Tummar Riba, the CBR coordinator welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the day. Mr Gogen Gadi, the PWD minister, Arunachal Pradesh, was the chief guest of the day. 120 PwDs received disability certificates from the minister during the function. Many an eminent person spoke during the function, appreciating FAsCE INDIA for taking up the divine task of mainstreaming the less privileged of the society. It was an emotional scene to witness the reception of the certificates by PwDs as many were in tears. Smty. Pemmik Basar, one of the PwDs said, “Now I have something valuable in my hand. This certificate is going to be my help in the coming days.”

Mr Gadi, in his key note address, spoke about the favors and grants that the government has for the disabled and encouraged the organisation to channelizs the opportunities for the advantage of the PwDs. He expressed his appreciation and thanks towards CBR FORUM and FAsCE India and requested every public leader and the concerned head of the departments to be cooperative and helpful as the government is appreciative of the commendable work done by MSFS fathers at Basar.

The cultural evening, presented by the SFS School students, added colour and joy to the day’s celebrations. The DPO members put up a store with their handiworks on sale, like candles, flowers, rosaries and traditional dresses.
